Programs

With a sisterhood of over 350,000 college-educated women nationwide, Delta Sigma Theta continues to positively impact communities. The sorority upholds the principles of scholarship, public service, and sisterhood, which are embodied in the sorority’s numerous programs.  In each collegiate or alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, members create programs tailored to their community’s needs. These public service initiatives are based on Delta’s Five-Point Thrust:

Economic Development
Delta focuses on economic development through financial planning, consumer education, money management, investments, and employment opportunities.

Educational Development
Local Delta chapters annually carry out projects to promote educational excellence. Nationally, Delta supports education through scholarships and grants for individual members and local chapters, benefiting both undergraduate and graduate members.

Physical and Mental Health
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. offers programs centered on health education and health fairs. The sorority also supports medical research targeting illnesses affecting specific population segments.

Political Awareness and Involvement
Although non-partisan, Delta values an informed electorate. The sorority’s public service initiatives in this area include voter registration and education, workshops, and seminars focusing on public official assessment and accountability.

International Awareness and Involvement
Delta has a rich history of international engagement. This includes building and maintaining a maternity wing at Thika Memorial Hospital in Kenya and designating 1987 as the “Delta International Year.” The “African Diaspora” program explores the spread of African peoples and cultures across various continents, enhancing cultural awareness and understanding.
